Those of you that read the 'Dog Blog' will already know about Hilda!!
In October (2007) my friend Ann was found dead at home. She died how she'd lived; surrounded by her dogs, just as she'd wanted. Her brother rang me to say that I was her 'designated person' to find her four babes new homes.
To cut a very long story short, the three oldies were sorted and 'Twiggy' came to stay with me until I could find her a new home...........

It was only a week since Indie had died and things were still very 'raw'.
I had decided that I wasn't going to have anymore dogs until Duggie was older, so that I could concentrate on his obed
ience. And I definitely didn't want a BITCH that was virtually the same age as him. I started putting the feelers out for a new home for her. I didn't want her to go too far away as I wanted to keep an eye on her. A couple of possible homes came but one thing and another meant they weren't suitable.
Then she came in season!!
Luckily, Duggie is the only entire dog I have and because he is still such a baby - some may say a 'mummy's boy', (
) he didn't take any notice of her tarting about
After her season had finished her whole personality changed. She'd had a few arguements with me previously, about not coming when she was called and not letting anyone move if she was eating, but she soon realised this was not a good idea!
She got worse once she became a woman!
If she didn't want to do anything or if you wanted her to move out of the way or brush her, she would put her teeth on you. She was never quite brave enough to actually bite but I didn't fancy rehoming her until it was sorted. She was also VERY bossy with the other dogs.
She's the only dog I've ever known Jerry to be scared of!

I decided to have her speyed to see if that improved her mood, so I couldn't rehome her 'til she'd recovered from that................
She was 'done' in January and luckily, it seems to have settled her down. She hasn't lost any of her spark she's just more sociable. She looks more 'lurchery' now. A certain person, who shall remain nameless, said she looked like a womble! I hate to admit it but in a certain light...........
So who's Hilda, I hear you thinking?
I believe in new home, new name (not that this is her permanent home you understand!) and while we were going through our 'recall issues', it seemed as if she didn't register with the name Twiggy. I stood and called her all sorts of names, Mavis, Mabel, Doris amongst others that aren't printable on here! The only one she turned and looked at me with was Hilda, so don't blame me, she picked it herself.
I'm not training her for obedience, but have done some tricks with her. Also, she's started agility training, which she's took to like a duck to water, so whoever gets to keep her might like to carry it on..............

She did have a very woolly, knotty coat so she went to Auntie Sylvies for a bath and blow-dry and after Tracy had shown me how, I stripped all her old hair and baby coat out to make her look beautiful! I took her to a Companion Show to do a bit of socialising and entered her in Best Lurcher and Best Longcoat. She won them both.

She thinks she's got her feet firmly under the table or her bum firmly on the settee!

I still don't really want to own another dog. Especially a BITCH the same age as Dug but they do get on rather well, and I think they are now bezzie mates. I keep explaining that if a nice home comes along she'll have to go, but I don't think she's listening.
I also think that everything happens for a reason.
P'raps Pid knew she had to leave to make room for a needy case, seems strange that it was exactly a week to the day that she left...........
At the moment Hilda's on 'long term foster' and is still looking for a home, albeit with eyes tightly shut and dark glasses on just to be on the safe side.
Dug's quite happy with the arrangement.

I'd nearly resigned myself to the fact that no-one would come up to scratch on Hilda's homing front!! Then we met up with 'Fate' at a show.
I got Hils out of the van for a wee just as Julie got out of her van in the row in front. It was more or less love at first sight. Julie already has a GSD, an Alaskan Malamute, a Siberian Husky, a Whippet, and a blonde version of Hilda called Bert. So Hils was destined to be dog number six!
To cut a long story short, and after many phone calls to her husband, Julie took Hils home with her. She emailed me when she got home to let me know how Hilda had settled in.
D'ya think she was missing me?

No, nor do I!!!
We'll be able to keep in touch with Hilda round the shows so I'm going to keep her page updated with her adventures. Here's a few more pics that Julie has sent.
